2009 Scholarship Awarded to Will Bonney |
|
The Stanford Australia Foundation awarded its 2009 scholarship to Will Bonney, the Chief Operations Officer of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Mr Bonney will undertake the Executive Program for Non-Profit Leaders (EPNL) in March 2009 at the prestigious Stanford University campus in Palo Alto, California (aka Silicon Valley). The scholarship will cover travel and tuition for Mr Bonney to participate in a program specifically designed for the complex challenges facing leaders in non-profit organisations. “The Stanford Australia Foundation is providing a significant opportunity to me and to JDRF which will benefit our business and ultimately the type 1 diabetes community in a real way. To stay competitive in the current environment not for profit organisations must be equally, if not more, professional and transparent than the private sector, on whom we rely for funding. This is a principle we embrace at JDRF. I am looking forward to interacting with, learning from and being inspired by world leaders of the not for profit sector at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.” About JDRF The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the world’s largest not-for-profit supporter of diabetes research, investing more than $150 million in the search to find a cure for type 1 diabetes each year. The mission of JDRF is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes affects 140,000 Australians and the number of new cases is increasing every year. Typically striking young people, it causes the destruction of insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, resulting in a lifelong daily regime of painful injections and finger-prick tests and an increased risk of health complications.
